Standard or Deluxe Mesh - What Safety Cover is Right for You?

Pool closing is right around the corner, which means it’s time to get your safety cover out, brushed off, and ready to go! Now, if you’re looking to purchase either a brand new safety cover or a replacement cover, you may be considering which type of cover is right for you.

While there’s quite a few options of materials, many of our customers have the hardest time deciding between standard or deluxe mesh, given the similarities of the two. But have no fear, we’re here to break it down easily, so that you can make a confident decision when ordering your cover.

Mesh Safety Covers

Mesh safety covers are a popular choice among pool owners, given their affordability and light weight. Plus, with proper care and maintenance, these covers can last upwards of 18 years, saving you time, energy, and of course, money.

Though light weight, Mesh Safety Covers can hold up to 500 lbs (some options even more), keeping your investment and your family safe and sound during the pool off-season. Made out of mesh, of course, the goal of this cover is to allow rainwater and melted snow fall through, preventing a build up on top of the cover.

Debris, dirt, sticks, and leaves are all left on top, preventing anything other than rain and snow from entering your pool. You may have some sediment to vacuum up during your pool opening, but it will definitely be less of a hassle than without this cover.

In terms of sunlight, mesh covers vary in their prevention of letting the UV rays get in, and this is what leads us to the breakdown of standard vs deluxe mesh covers.

Standard Mesh Safety Covers

If you’re looking for an affordable safety cover that will get the job done, a Standard Mesh Cover may be your best option. Lightweight yet durable like all mesh covers, this option is great for pool owners who want to cover their pool and prevent any debris or sticks from falling through. With a burst PSI (pounds per square inch) of 500, this will surely provide you a peace of mind knowing your family will be safe.

Given that these covers only provide only 93% of UV ray and sunlight protection, this cover is optimal for pools that are not exposed heavily to sunlight during the off-season. Or, a great option if you’re a pool owner who can easily use algaecide to clear up any algae or murky waters when opening a pool.

To put it in plain terms, Standard Mesh Covers are ideal if you're looking for a basic and affordable option that will cover and protect your pool, getting the job done.

Deluxe Mesh Safety Covers

Deluxe Mesh Covers take pool coverage to the next level! Designed with a tighter mesh weave and a material that is of higher durability and heavier than standard covers, this option provides an added layer of protection and security for your pool and your family. To put it in comparison to a standard cover, deluxe covers have a burst PSI of 650.

Plus, this option blocks more UV rays and sun exposure. Most Deluxe Mesh covers prevent up to 98% of sunlight from getting into the pool, preventing algae growth and allowing for an easier opening in the Spring. Ideal for those who live in areas that get more sun exposure during off-season!

With the heavier material and durability, these covers tend to be more expensive, however they also last longer. Which is why so many options provide a 20 year warranty instead of only 18 (such as with Standard Mesh Covers).

To put it in plain terms for the Deluxe cover, if you’re looking for an option that is extra durable and provides more protection for your family as well as protects against the sun, this cover is right for you!

A safety cover is a wonderful investment for your pool and to give you some peace of mind during the Fall and Winter. Depending on whether you want that extra protection, or are okay with the basic coverage, will help determine which mesh cover is right for you.
