Are You Prepared To Open Your Pool?

Spring is in the air, and that means it's time to start thinking about opening your pool for the season. But before you dive in, there are a few things you need to check off your to-do list to make sure your pool is ready for summer fun. Here's a few things you should do before opening your pool.

Let's Get Swimming

Step 1: Equipment

Your pool equipment needs a little TLC after a long winter. Make sure your filtration system is in good working order and to ensure all pumps and motors run smoothly upon start up, clean away any foliage or spider webs from around the vents. You may also want to consider investing in a solar blanket and roller to help keep your pool warm and reduce evaporation. Make sure you check any plugs, gauges, o-rings baskets and returns that were removed at closing for quality issues and make a list of what needs to be replaced.

Step 2: Safety equipment

Safety should always be a top priority, especially if you have young children or pets. Make sure your pool cover is in good condition and securely fastened. Take note of any rips or areas that look like they may need to be repaired so you can fix it as soon as the cover is removed. This is also a great time to invest in a pool alarm or safety fence if for extra security.

Step 3: Cleaning equipment

A sparkling clean pool is a must for summer enjoyment. Stock up on a good pool brush, skimmer net, and vacuum to keep your pool free of debris and algae buildup. DPSW has a great selection of robotic cleaners for all pool types to help keep your pool looking its best this season.

Step 4: Chemicals

While the pool is still closed, you should also take the opportunity to check the chemicals you have from last season. It’s a good idea to take stock of any chemicals you still have. Ensure that the liquid products did not freeze over the winter and the granular products were not contaminated with any moisture. You will most likely need to purchase some chemicals and an opening kit is a great place to start, as it will include a shock treatment and other specialty chemicals. You'll also need to stock up on your maintenance products. Come into your nearest DPSW store and talk to the experts about our algae free guarantee maintenance program!
