Which Winter Cover is Right for You?

Which Winter Cover is Right for You?

It’s that time of year again! Sadly, pool season has come and gone, and now it's time to sit back and prepare for a successful pool closing. While chemicals and equipment are an important part of the process, what you really need for a secure and easy pool close is a winter cover.

Now if you’re new to the pool game or are just now ready to invest in a Winter cover, you may be wondering which cover is right for you! After all, there are three options to choose from that all serve a different purpose and are at different price points. It can be a little confusing, but not to worry, as always, we have you covered!

Is a Winter Cover Necessary?

If you’ve closed your pool without using a cover, you probably know the deal. Over the Fall and Winter seasons dirt, leaves, and debris fall into your pool causing an unsightly mess. This can not only be costly, due to the number of chemicals and work it will take to clean out your pool in the Spring, but it also extends the amount of time it takes to open your pool.

This is why Winter Covers are so handy! Not only do they prevent dirt and leaves from falling into your pool, but depending on the type you purchase, they can also serve a number of other purposes, which we’ll get into later in this post.

So, in short, Winter Covers aren’t necessary. However, if you want to protect your pool over the off-season and shorten the amount of time it takes to open your pool, then you’ll definitely find that having one is extremely useful and worth the investment.

The Different Types of Winter Covers

As we mentioned previously, there are a few different types of winter covers available for purchase. These types are Leaf Nets, Winter covers, and Safety covers, and your goals and priorities for your pool and backyard will help determine which cover is the right option for you.

Leaf Nets

If you’re tired of pulling leaves, dirt, and debris out of your pool every spring, then a Leaf Net may be perfect for you. These are ideal for those who are looking to improve their pool closing and opening process by preventing leaves and other items from falling into their pool during the off-season. Not only does it make clean-up easier, but it also allows the water to stay clearer.

We will note that these covers are at a great price point, so if you're looking for a simple cover that will help keep your pool clear and will make pool opening quick and simple, then this is a great choice.

But, if you’re looking for an option that provides a bit more protection, then you may want to invest in…

Winter Covers

A Winter cover! These types of covers provide the next level of protection for your pool during the offseason. Not only do they prevent dirt, leaves, and debris from getting in, but there are also options available that prevent the UV rays from the sun from hitting your pool, causing some wear and tear on your liner.

They can also help prevent your pool shell from cracking during the cold and harsh winter months and prevent any animals from entering or falling into your pool. This is something you may find as useful, especially if you have small pets.

Winter covers come at a variety of price points, allowing you to find the fit and material that works for your pool. While these covers do add a level of safety to your backyard, we will note that they should not be used or looked at as a safety barrier.

Instead, if you’re looking for something that helps keep your pool clean and adds that extra level of safety, which may be necessary if you have small kids or pets, then you need a Safety cover.

Safety Covers

Safety covers can be a little more costly compared to the two other options, however, if safety is your main concern or priority during pool closing, then this cover is worth the investment. Not only will a Safety Cover prevent dirt, leaves, and debris from entering your pool during the off-season, but they also help give parents a piece of mind knowing that their backyard is secure and safe for their young ones and pets.

Not to mention, safety covers last a long time, especially when cared for properly. While other covers may last 2 - 3 or sometimes even 5 years, a safety cover will last you and your family, on average, 15 years. Though we will mention that some brands can last up to 25 years! Plus, these types of covers can be patched, helping to add to their lifespan.

When purchasing a Safety cover, our team will work with you either in-store or through our online process, to ensure that your safety cover is the perfect fit for your pool. This will help ensure that long lifespan as well as ensure that your safety cover provides its purpose during the pool off-season.

Once you know the main purpose as to why you want a winter cover, you’ll be able to easily determine which cover is the right option for you. If it’s safety then you’ll want a Safety cover and if it's just for the basics, well then, a Leaf Cover will more than suffice. Once you’ve determined your cover option, then it's time for the fun part.

Feel free to visit us online, or head on over to any of our 10 locations to start shopping. Our team will be able to help answer any of your questions as well as help you find a cover that meets your needs, price point, and the size of your pool, easily.
